Championing Breast Cancer Awareness at Student Quarters

Know the Facts, Make a Difference

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and at Student Quarters, we’re stepping up to support the fight against breast cancer. As an organization deeply rooted in fostering community, we’re dedicated to raising awareness and promoting education on this vital cause. Through our “Know the Facts” campaign, we’re shedding light on important information about breast cancer while actively encouraging our residents, employees, and the broader community to get involved.

Know the Facts: Understanding Breast Cancer Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women, but with awareness, early detection, and education, many lives can be saved. Here are some essential facts from our “Know the Facts” campaign to help educate and empower individuals:

  • Early Detection Saves Lives – Women who detect breast cancer early (before it spreads) have a 99% chance of survival over five years.
  • Men Can Get Breast Cancer Too – Though rare, 1 out of every 100 breast cancer cases in the U.S. are in men. Awareness among men is just as critical for early detection.
  • Risk Factors – While some breast cancer risk factors like genetics and age are uncontrollable, factors such as maintaining a healthy weight, reducing alcohol intake, and staying physically active can reduce the likelihood of developing breast cancer.
  • Mammograms Matter – Regular mammograms are the most effective way to catch breast cancer early. It’s recommended for women aged 40 and over to get a mammogram annually.
  • Breast Cancer Can Affect Younger Women – Though most cases are diagnosed in women over 50, younger women can be affected too, making self-exams and awareness of family history critical for all ages.
  • 1 in 8 Women – Around 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Being aware of this statistic underscores the importance of both preventative measures and continuous research funding.

Our Commitment: Supporting the National Breast Cancer Foundation

At Student Quarters, we believe that small actions can lead to big changes. For every like or share of our “Know the Facts” campaign post on social media, we’re donating $5 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF). The funds we raise will help provide mammograms for women in need, support educational programs, and offer assistance to underserved communities where breast cancer awareness and treatment options may be limited.

How You Can Help

Join us this October and make a difference in the fight against breast cancer. Every interaction with our social media campaign contributes directly to helping others. Whether you like, share, or repost, your action translates into support for women who need it most. Together, we can help fund life-saving mammograms, provide resources for breast cancer education, and give hope to women everywhere.

Why Every Dollar Matters

  • Mammograms Save Lives – The funds raised can help cover the cost of mammograms for women who can’t afford them.
  • Education Empowers – Your engagement will support NBCF’s mission to provide educational materials and outreach programs to spread awareness, especially in underserved communities.
  • Community Support – The funds will also contribute to support networks for breast cancer patients, ensuring no one faces their battle alone.
