Celebrating The Women Behind the Squad

March is Women’s History Month, a time to recognize the women who are shaping industries, leading teams, and making an impact every single day. At Student Quarters, women are doing exactly that.

Across our portfolio, women are leading at every level of the business, from onsite teams to corporate leadership. They are driving performance, building culture, and creating communities that feel like home. Their leadership is not defined by a single role or title, but by the way they show up: with confidence, creativity, and a deep commitment to the people around them.

This month, we’re celebrating the women behind the SQuad and the impact they make every day.

There’s No One Path to Leadership

One of the most unique things about student housing, and especially Student Quarters, is that there is no single path to leadership.

Some start onsite. Some find their passion in leasing. Others grow into operations, marketing, or executive roles over time. But what they all have in common is a willingness to step up, take risks, and keep evolving.

Carly Shepherd, VP of Sales and Marketing, is a perfect example of that growth.

“I started onsite as an Assistant Manager when I was 19 and worked my way up to General Manager… I always found myself most energized by the creative and leasing side of the business. Being able to combine strategy, creativity, and performance to drive results is what I love most.”

Shannon Failla, SVP of Culture and Support, started her career after answering a simple “now hiring” sign, something that ultimately shaped her entire path.

“My journey has been defined by taking risks, raising my hand, and evolving. At its core, my leadership philosophy is about creating places where people can do their best work and feel genuinely connected.” said Shannon.

At Student Quarters, leadership isn’t one-size-fits-all. It evolves depending on where you are and who you’re leading.

Kylee Bradshaw, Regional Director, shared:

“I’ve learned that the real impact comes from shifting out of the ‘doer’ mindset into a coaching role. My focus is on empowering our site managers to own their communities.”

Hallie McCleave, Marketing Manager at Locale Fayetteville and Champions Club, shared:

“Leadership starts with having a clear plan while also recognizing the people who make it possible. It means understanding your team’s strengths, encouraging collaboration, and being willing to pivot when needed.”

Cayla Body, Leasing Manager at University Walk, shared:

“Transitioning into this role has been a roller coaster, but in the best way. I’ve had so much support along the way, and it’s helped me grow into the role and build confidence.”

“When my team is just as excited about hitting our goals as I am, that’s when I know I’m doing my job. I’m right there with them, putting in the work and leading by example.”

What It Means to Be a Woman in Leadership at SQ

“Being a woman in leadership means showing up with confidence, leading with both strength and empathy, and creating space for others to grow,” Carly shared.

“You don’t have to fit a specific mold to have a seat at the table,” Shannon added.

“There isn’t just one way to be a strong leader,” Hallie shared.

“Being a woman in leadership at SQ makes me feel unstoppable,” Cayla shared.

The women of Student Quarters are shaping the future of the company every single day. They are building culture, driving results, and creating opportunities for the next generation of leaders. And while Women’s History Month is a time to celebrate, this impact is something we see every day.

Because at Student Quarters, leadership isn’t defined by title, it’s defined by the people behind it.
